●専門家に質す ask the opinion of [consult] an expert

・疑問の個所を質す ask about a doubtful point; have a doubtful point explained 《by sb》

・真意を質す ask what he really means [meant]; inquire about his true intentions

・政府の方針を質す ask for [demand] an explanation of a government policy.

2 〔確かめる〕 ascertain; make sure [assure oneself] of…; verify.
